Safe space for creative play

Children’s experiences should not be passive, but active. The philosophy of the Ketteler Hof active leisure park in Haltern am See / Lavesum is reflected in the Pixie Village and the adventure crazy golf course. Both these play facilities have had the seamless safety flooring REGUPOL playfix fun installed and can thus provide children with a safe space for their creative play. On a total of 12 hectares, the Ketteler Hof features countless imaginatively designed and inviting play areas for adventure and relaxation. Every year, at least one further attraction is added to the park.

Project overview

  • Colours: mixtures of orange, earth yellow and rainbow green; beige, red and black
  • Areas fitted: approx. 400 m², approx. 250 m²
  • Architect: Rolf Teschner

The idea for the Pixie Village – and for the adventure crazy golf – was developed in a planning process involving the Ketteler Hof owner, Georg Schulze Robert, and landscape architect Rolf Teschner from Dülmen. To provide the surfaces in the entire facility with a functional yet aesthetic design, the Pixie Village architect and qualified engineer Rolf Teschner selected the seamless REGUPOL playfix fun safety flooring from REGUPOL. In his view, REGUPOL playfix fun would blend in extremely well with the sand surfaces on which the playing equipment is built up on.

Since not all surfaces consist of sand, he believes REGUPOL playfix fun represents the perfect supplement, not least because there’s a free choice of colours. To adapt the new play areas to their surroundings, a mix of three colours – for the Pixie Village orange, earth yellow and rainbow green – created a speckled surface which harmonises with the overall nature-based concept. Weather-resistance and a low abrasion level were also properties architect Rolf Teschner wanted for the surface layer on the new facilities and REGUPOL playfix fun was able to deliver here, too. Alternative surfaces such as grass, gravel and similar options simply couldn’t compete.

A total of 650 m² of REGUPOL playfix fun were installed, including on pathways, undulating landscapes and also small sports courts. Applying the surface to the undulating, hill landscapes that run through the new playing areas presented a special challenge. For this task, qualified specialists were required. For the installation of REGUPOL playfix fun, REGUPOL works exclusively with the company’s own trained fitters. Thanks to the countless projects implemented worldwide, these employees are skilled in dealing with very different requirements, whereas other companies bring in subcontractors with staff who only carry out this kind of work very occasionally.
